Message from the Principal

Greetings Panther Families,

What an amazing first week of school we have had in Panther Nation! 🐾 Our students have spent the week building relationships, learning classroom routines and procedures, engaging in meaningful learning, and rising to the high expectations we have for every Panther. It has been wonderful to see the excitement, energy, and smiles throughout our school!

As we continue settling into the new school year, your partnership remains an important part of our success. Please take time each week to carefully review The Panther Press for important school updates, upcoming events, academic information, family engagement opportunities, and reminders.

We have so much to look forward to this year, and we are excited to continue working alongside our families to ensure every child, every day has the opportunity to learn, grow, achieve, and thrive.

Thank you for a wonderful first week and for your continued support of C.F. Pope Elementary. Week one is complete, and we are just getting started! 💙💛

Announcements

⚖️Parents Right to Know

We ask that all parents and guardians take time to carefully review the district and State of North Carolina testing and assessment requirements for students. Understanding these requirements will help families stay informed about the assessments students will participate in throughout the school year.

Information regarding districtwide and state-mandated assessments, testing requirements, and important testing information can be found here.

🐾3rd Grade Beginning-of-Grade 3 (BOG3)

Our 3rd Grade students will take the Beginning-of-Grade 3 (BOG3) Wednesday, September 2. More information about the BOG3 can be found here.

💙K-5 Beginning of Year Assessments

Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade will participate in Beginning-of-Year (BOY) assessments between September 9–16. Students will complete mCLASS, STAR Reading, and STAR Math assessments.

These assessments provide teachers with valuable information about students’ current academic strengths and areas for growth. Results will help guide instruction, interventions, and enrichment opportunities throughout the school year.

Families can learn more about each assessment by using the highlighted links provided below.

💛School Improvement Team Meetings (SIT)

Are you looking for an opportunity to have a voice and be involved in our school improvement process? We invite parents, guardians, and community members to join our School Improvement Team (SIT) meetings, held every third Wednesday of the month. Families may participate in person or virtually.

Your voice and partnership are important as we work together to make C.F. Pope Elementary the best it can be for every Panther!

A graphic with all School Improvement Team meeting dates and the virtual meeting link can be found under the Family Engagement section of this newsletter.

🐾Annual Candy Man Inc. Fundraiser Coming Soon!

Our school’s Annual CMI Fundraiser will run from September 15 through October 9! 🎉

Please be on the lookout for important fundraiser information that will be sent home in your child’s folder or backpack. We are excited for another successful fundraiser and appreciate the continued support of our Panther families and community!

💙Family Lunch Visits

As we begin the new school year, we want to give our students and staff time to acclimate to their daily schedules, establish consistent routines, and become comfortable with schoolwide expectations.

To support a smooth and successful transition, family lunch visits will begin after October 1. Until that time, we ask that families allow students to become comfortable and independent with their lunchtime routines and procedures.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and partnership as we work to create a positive and structured start to the school year for all of our Panthers.

💛PBIS Celebrations & Panther Perks

At C.F. Pope Elementary, our PBIS program encourages students to demonstrate positive behavior, make responsible choices, and show their Panther Pride each day! Throughout the school year, students will have opportunities to earn rewards through Panther Perks and participate in special monthly and quarterly PBIS celebrations.

Panther Perks – School Store

All students are able to shop at Panther Perks each month! Students will have an opportunity to cash in the PBIS points they have earned for prizes and incentives once a month during their Specials block. Participation in the school store is not dependent on PBIS celebration eligibility.

 PBIS Celebration Eligibility

Students may participate in monthly and quarterly PBIS celebrations when they meet the following behavior expectations:

Eligible:
Students have no office referrals and no more than 3 minor behavior incidents documented in Educator’s Handbook during the applicable eligibility period.

Ineligible:
Students with one or more office referrals or 3 or more minor behavior incidents documented in Educator’s Handbook during the applicable eligibility period may be ineligible to participate in the celebration.

Parent/Guardian Notification: If a student is ineligible to participate in a monthly or quarterly PBIS celebration, a letter will be sent home to notify the parent/guardian.

Our goal is to recognize positive choices while helping every Panther learn, grow, and make choices that demonstrate Panther Pride! Please review the calendar below for our upcoming Panther Perks shopping days and PBIS celebration dates.

Reminders

✅Our school’s start time is 7:35 and dismissal time is at 2:35. Students will be received from buses and cars beginning at 7:10. The front office does not open until 7:30. If you report to the car ride lane after 7:30, you will need to drive around to the front entrance. After 7:30 all students must be escorted to the Front Office. If it is after 7:35, students must be checked in at the front office by an adult.

✅Increasing our daily attendance rate remains a top priority at C.F. Pope Elementary. While we made great gains last year, our goal is to have a 95% attendance rate daily. We ask that you assist us in making sure that students are present and on time each day. In the event that your child is going to be absent, please make sure that documentation is provided and you have communicated with your child’s teacher the reason for their absence.

✅We ask that parents who have students that are car riders  do not arrive before 2:30 to alleviate cars being backed up on N Wright St. School dismisses at 2:35 and students are prepared to leave campus by car at 2:45. Cones to the car lane should only be moved by school personnel to ensure and maintain the safety of students.

✅All parents and visitors will be required to present a valid ID for checkout and school visitation.

✅Any individual checking a student out or visiting the campus must be listed in Infinite Campus.

✅In our attempt to maximize instructional learning, student checkout will not be permitted after 2:00 p.m. Special circumstances will be evaluated on an individual basis by administration.

We are looking forward to a great year! If you have any questions or concerns, call C.F. Pope Elementary at 910-259-0145.
